Kumari Ghar Re-opens For Public After Earthqauke

The cultural and architectural masterpiece, home of living goddesses Kumari at UNESCO world heritage site Kathmandu Durbar Square has been reopened from yesterday (July 2) which was closed for visitors after April 25 earthquake.

Kumari Ghar is believed to be the center of attraction for all visitors which holds great cultural importance for both Hindus and Buddhists. The pagoda style temple infront of Kumari ghar turned into rubble; however it survived massive earthquake and declared safe with some minor renovations to follow. After high magnitude earthquake and continuing powerful aftershocks, goddess Kumari was shifted to safer place and the three storey house was closed for security issues.

However, now as the number and magnitude of aftershocks are declining, nine years old goddess Kumari has been shifted to her original place where she used to be in. Now, after reopening of house, visitors can visit living goddess in same scheduled time as before, between 7 and 9am and 4 and 6 pm, according to Gautamranta Shakya, Chairperson of Indrajatra management committee and attendants to Kumari.
