Chisapani Nagarkot

Chisapani Nagarkot is one of the most accessible trekking routes from Kathmandu, covering a short but rewarding trail through Shivapuri Nagarjun National Park to the hilltop village of Chisapani before continuing to the panoramic viewpoint at Nagarkot. The route is popular for its Himalayan sunrise views, rhododendron forests, and teahouse culture without the altitude demands of longer treks.

The standard itinerary runs two to three days. Day one covers Sundarijal to Chisapani (4–5 hours), passing through dense forest and gaining gradual elevation to around 2,175m. Day two continues from Chisapani to Nagarkot (3–4 hours), arriving in time for sunset views across the Himalayas. Day three descends to Bhaktapur or Kathmandu by road.

The trail is suitable for first-time trekkers, families, and anyone looking for a short escape from Kathmandu without committing to a full trekking expedition. No technical experience is required. The best seasons are spring (March–May) and autumn (September–November), though winter mornings at Nagarkot offer exceptionally clear Himalayan views.
