15-DAY KAILASH MANSAROWAR TRIP
The Kailash Mansarovar Yatra is not an ordinary pilgrimage.
It is a calling that touches the heart long before the feet begin to walk. believed to be the eternal abode of Lord Shiva. It is located in remote Tibet at an altitude of 6,638 meters. It is geographically close to the origin of four large rivers of Asia.
These are the Indus, Sutlej, Brahmaputra, and Karnali. It is holy to various religions.
According to the Hindu, it is the residence of Lord Shiva. It is linked with Chakrasamvara by Buddhists. For Jains, it represents freedom and liberation. Devotees of Bon consider it the seat of spiritual power.
No one climbs Mount Kailash. The scaling is prohibited and culturally impossible. However, it offers devotion in the form of the kora. The kora is the clockwise walk around the mountain. It takes about 52 kilometers to complete.
The kora is performed in three days. It is challenging physically because the summit, Dolma La Pass, is 5,645 meters. Many pilgrims struggle here. Some turn back. Some pass gradually, bit by bit, by breath and patience.
Nearby, Lake Mansarovar is equally sacred. Many pilgrims bathe in its icy waters despite the cold. Some also sit on its shores silently, and this also holds some spiritual significance.
This 15-day Kailash Pilgrimage Tour is not in a rush but is a safe and meaningful journey that will enable the body to adjust to the altitude whilst the mind is not distracted but sticks to the faith and inner stillness.
Kailash Mansarovar Yatra is not something that can be travelled at any given time of the year. The Yatra typically takes place between May and September. Routes outside this time of year are closed because of snow, extreme cold weather, or because the roads are unsafe. Why Can No One Climb Mount Kailash?
Mount Kailash is considered holy in many religions. Climbing the mountain is forbidden by religious belief and tradition, as it is considered disrespectful to conquer a holy place. Instead of climbing, pilgrims show devotion by walking around the mountain. This walk is known as kora or parikrama.
Out of respect for its spiritual importance, the Chinese authorities have officially banned climbing Mount Kailash and do not issue any permits. Because of this, there are no determined climbing routes, base camps, or any other expedition support.
On top of that, the mountain itself is extremely challenging, with steep terrain, harsh weather, and no clear paths. So Mount Kailash remains unclimbed not due to lack of ability, but because of faith, law, and respect combined with natural difficulty.
Kailash Mansarovar Yatra during Full Moon Day
It is particularly important that a Kailash Mansarovar Yatra takes place on a full moon day. A lot of pilgrims strive to complete the kora during the full moon since they think it increases spiritual merit.
Mount Kailash has varied light reflection on a full moon. The landscape feels quieter. Nights are brighter. The experience is very emotional for many.
